Greenhouses

Extend your growing season past the last frost and start earlier than your climate allows. These structures are built from western red cedar and twin-wall polycarbonate — materials chosen for dimensional stability, light diffusion, and resistance to the conditions that fail lesser builds.

Questions We Get a Lot

Twin-wall polycarbonate traps an air gap between layers, which slows heat loss through the wall — the same principle as double-glazed glass but at a fraction of the weight. It also diffuses direct sunlight into softer, more even light across your plants, which reduces hot spots. For most temperate climates, this is the panel spec that makes shoulder-season growing practical.

Cedar contains natural oils that resist moisture, fungal decay, and insect activity without chemical treatment. In a greenhouse context, where condensation is constant and the frame sits in humid soil contact, that matters more than it does for a dry garden bench. Pressure-treated lumber offgasses; cedar does not — a relevant consideration when the structure is sealed around food crops.

On a clear day, an unvented greenhouse can exceed ambient temperature by 30 degrees or more within the first hour of direct sun. Roof vents positioned at the ridge allow hot air to rise and escape naturally without a fan. The number and placement of vents determines how quickly you can stabilize interior temperature — it is the single most consequential design decision after the panel spec.

About Our Greenhouses

A backyard greenhouse solves a specific problem: your outdoor growing season is shorter than what your plants require. The structure creates a controlled microclimate — warmer nights, protected soil, stable humidity — that lets you start earlier in spring and carry production later into autumn. For the right buyer, that means growing varieties that would otherwise be impractical at their latitude. The two decisions that determine performance are frame material and panel spec. Cedar is the benchmark frame material for residential greenhouses because its natural oils resist moisture and fungal decay across years of high-humidity interior conditions. Polycarbonate panels are rated by thickness and wall configuration; twin-wall panels diffuse light more evenly and retain heat better than single-layer alternatives. Ventilation geometry matters as much as either of those. A greenhouse that cannot release heat quickly enough during peak sun hours becomes a liability, not an asset. Roof vents positioned at the ridge are the minimum standard. Size your structure for the footprint you have and the crop load you actually intend — undersizing is the most common planning error.
